White Plains, NY - The American Cancer Society (ACS) will honor three cancer survivors at its “Celebrate Life, Celebrate Success, Celebrate Survivors” Diamond Luncheon and Boutique to be held on Friday, May 30, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester in White Plains.
This represents the first time the ACS is holding a luncheon instead of a dinner, and offering a boutique featuring 45 specialty vendors from around the country.
This is also the first time it is honoring cancer survivors: Corporate Honoree Elizabeth Bracken-Thompson of Croton-on-Hudson, Executive Vice President & Partner at Thompson & Bender, Inc. in Briarcliff Manor; and Volunteer Honorees Harold Debrovner of White Plains and Muffin Gleason Hamm of Mount Vernon.
Lee Goldberg, Chief Meteorologist for ABC 7 Eyewitness News will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event, and the guest speaker will be Dr. Patricia Carrigan, an ACS Ambassador Cancer Researcher. Currently, her research focuses on identifying early detection biomarkers for pancreatic, colon and breast cancer. She has published several reports in medical journals and has presented at national and international conferences as well as many American Cancer Society events.
Armed with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Dr. Carrigan has worked with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, researching proteins and steroid receptors. Later, she transitioned into a Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics laboratory, where her current work earned he an American Cancer Society Post-doctoral Fellowship Grant and the Leadership and Legacy Award. Dr. Carrigan began her career working with the University of Cincinnati as a research assistant in Environmental Toxicology, conducting allergy and asthma research.
