Port Chester, NY - In celebration of National Community Health Center Week, the 2nd Annual Port Chester Community Health Fair will take place on Saturday August 9 from 10am-2pm (the rain date is Saturday, August 16).
The health fair is sponsored by Open Door Family Medical Centers and the Port Chester Council of Community Services’ Health Network. In recognition of her commitment to the health and well-being of the community, Congresswoman Nita Lowey will be honored as the 2008 Open Door Health Hero during a noon-time ceremony. The free event will take place on Purdy Avenue, between Don Bosco and Grace Church Street.
Health care professionals from Open Door Family Medical Centers, White Plains Hospital Center, Greenwich Hospital and other organizations will offer free health screenings at Open Door’s Port Chester office.. The screenings will include tests for blood pressure, body mass index, vision, glaucoma, HIV, asthma, cholesterol and diabetes. In addition, experts will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions on various health topics including teen pregnancy, the importance of hand hygiene, sun safety, nutrition, and obesity. In addition to the screenings there will be music, children’s games and raffles.
The highlight of the fair will take place at noon, as Congresswoman Nita Lowey and other community health heroes are recognized for their dedication to community health. The ceremony will include a dance performance by the folklore group Revelacion de Peru.
The Health Network of Port Chester is a group of health care providers working to address the needs of the community in Port Chester. The Network is a committee of The Council of Community Services, and is composed of representatives from Open Door Family Medical Centers, Greenwich Hospital, Port Chester Carver Center, Hudson Health Plan, Westchester County Department of Health—Healthy Beginnings, Port Chester/Rye Brook/Rye EMS, White Plains Hospital Center and various other Westchester County agencies.
