Yonkers, NY - As cold temperatures envelop the region, the City of Yonkers is reminding landlords to abide by local heat regulations for their tenant buildings.
In an effort to keep everyone warm and safe this winter, the Department of Housing and Building is enforcing heating regulations throughout the city and is encouraging residents with heat problems, emergencies or complaints to call the city's 24-hour Heat Hotline at 914-965-3331.
The City of Yonkers requires landlords to maintain minimum temperatures in their buildings whenever the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees. The temperature requirements are as follows:
From 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM: 68 Degrees F
From 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM: 65 Degrees F
The city also requires hot water to be maintained at a minimum temperature of 120 degrees AT ALL TIMES.
If residents have a heat emergency or complaint, they are encouraged to call 914-965-3331 to report the problem. These calls will be received the Department of Housing and Building Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
After business hours, calls will be received by a bi- lingual (English & Spanish) answering service Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 8:30 AM and on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays on a 24-hour basis.
There will also be an inspector available after hours to respond to heat complaints received Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM; Saturday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM; and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Calls received after 1:30 PM on Sunday will be followed up with on Monday morning.
