White Plains, NY - As part of an ongoing effort to get everyone thinking about improving the environment, Westchester County is launching a series of Sustainability Forums, designed to engage every community in the county.
Local officials are being invited to attend regional forums to learn how to develop a sustainability program or take the one they have to the next level. By meeting with other municipal leaders as well as environmental experts, they will be able to discuss issues such as energy, waste, land use and transportation, and see how they are being handled by other communities.
Officials -- as well as invited staff and volunteers working on sustainability issues -- will also hear about economic stimulus funding opportunities as well as learn how they can contribute to a county website that will allow them to share best practices with their neighbors.
The municipal forums are an outgrowth of the countywide Global Warming Action Plan (www.westchestergov.com/globalwarming) that gives steps for every sector to follow, including residents, businesses, governments and schools.
The first forum is designed for communities in the northern tier of the county and is being held today at Hilltop Hanover Farm. The second forum is for Hudson River communities on June 15 at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. A third will be Sept. 9 for the Sound Shore region.
The forums, which are co-sponsored by the Westchester Municipal Officials Association Green Subcommittee, are not open to the public.
