Mt. Vernon, NY - The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau is pleased to announce that the Safe Haven Summer Camp will be offered to youth ages 6-13 beginning July 6th at Longfellow Elementary School.
The camp is one of the most affordable camps within the community and has had a consistent following for the past 10 years.
“This is the best and most affordable camp around,” said Mayor Clinton Young. “Save Haven is the place to be if you’re a young person in Mount Vernon. Thanks to Legislator Williams, we’re able to continue to offer this fantastic summer camp to you and your children.”
In response to the economic hardships that are faced by the city’s families and the shrinking availability of affordable summer activities, our Westchester County Legislator, Lyndon Williams (13th District) has provided funding to the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau which will allow the Bureau to charge a fee of $350.00. This fee includes field trip admissions, transportation, T-shirts and materials.
The Mayor recognizes that there is an overwhelming need to provide services during the summer for our youth which is why he has allowed the Bureau to enhance the program through youth development activities and field trips. The camp offers three field trips per week, some of which include Six Flags Great Escape, Lake Compounce, Splish Splash Water Park and Adventure Land. In addition to the field trips, the youth will be introduced to poetry, chess and the Young African Military Martial Arts Mentoring Academy (YAMMA). YAAMA instills discipline, self esteem and respect through the use of military drills and mentoring. The YAMMA Academy has been utilized in countless junior and high schools and Recreation Departments throughout Westchester County and New York City.
The applications are available in the Mount Vernon Youth Bureau-City Hall, Room 308 or online at www.cmvny.com. For further information, please contact King Thomas at (914) 665-2344.
