White Plains, NY - Westchester County government is hosting a major Shared Services Conference Tuesday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Westchester County Center, designed to show local governments, schools and other districts how they might save local tax dollars by using services already available from the county.
“Why should a local government or district pay for a service if the county has the expertise and resources to provide it at less cost?” said County Executive Andy Spano. “The bottom line is saving taxpayer dollars any way we can. If we can get better purchasing prices, provide networking services or provide important equipment in an emergency, we can help local governments keep taxes at manageable levels and at the same time allow them to maintain the high quality of services our residents expect. It benefits everyone, especially taxpayers.”
“County government has the resources, expertise and programs that can improve the bottom line of local municipal and school district budgets,” said County Board Chair Bill Ryan of White Plains. “Using county-shared services reduces service delivery costs and saves money for local property taxpayers.”
The event will feature a brief video presentation of the varied offerings from the county government, ranging from IT services and purchasing to public safety and emergency services. (Go to www.westchestergov.com/sharedservices for a comprehensive listing.)
More than 80 heads of governments, school administrators, purchasing agents and others are expected to attend. They will be able to go from booth to booth to talk directly to representatives from county departments to hear specifics about the shared services available through the county.
Throughout the morning, there will be demonstrations by the county’s Veggie Van, HazMat Mobile Identification vehicle, Mobile Shredder and the Bomb Squad robot. In addition, there will be a variety of interactive exhibits, informative materials and equipment displays.
The County Center is located at the junction of the Bronx River Parkway, Central Avenue and Tarrytown Road in White Plains.
