Westchester Government NewsWhite Plains, NY - The Business Council of Westchester (BCW), the county’s largest and most influential business organization, will present a debate between County Executive Andrew Spano and Rob Astorino on Wednesday, September 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

The debate, open only to Business Council members and the press, will be sponsored and hosted by Westchester One at 44 South Broadway in White Plains.

Vote 2009: The Race for County Executive will focus on business issues; questions for the candidates will be submitted beforehand by the Business Council’s Board of Directors and Governmental Action Council, as well as the general membership. A panel of members, representing the diverse BCW membership, will administer the questions during the debate.

“I welcome the opportunity to hear the candidates for county executive articulate their positions on economic development, property taxes, and the high cost of doing business in Westchester,” said Business Council Board Chairman Christopher O’Callaghan of Cushman & Wakefield. “Our members will be engaged on these issues and will be looking to the candidates to create the conditions that will lead to new jobs and an accelerated and lasting recovery.”

Lee M. Miringoff, Ph.D., the director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion at Marist College, will moderate. A member of the Political Science faculty at Marist College, Miringoff received his Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a frequent commentator and political analyst for print, radio and television on politics and elections, and is vice president of the National Council of Public Polls.

“We feel that it is important for our members to have a voice in this election and for the candidates to address the concerns of the business community in Westchester,” said Business Council President/CEO Dr. Marsha Gordon. “Given the severity of this recession, the timing is right for a meaningful dialogue on business issues.”
