Yonkers Hosts Two Free Concerts

Westchester Entertainment NewsYonkers, NY - The City of Yonkers announces two free concerts featuring the Yonkers Pops Band. Enjoy an afternoon of free musical entertainment on Sunday, June 14 and Sunday, June 21.

Both concerts start at 2:00 p.m. at Untermyer Park, located at 945 North Broadway.

Sunday, June 14 - "Celebrating Flag Day"
On Sunday, June 14 Milton Kabak will lead a band of 25 professional musicians with vocalist Kathy Hart and perform an entertaining program filled with something for everyone. The afternoon will include three marches: Our Heritage, American Patrol, and Manhattan Beach, highlights from South Pacific, a Salute to the Armed Forces, Irving Berlin's Songs for America, a Salute to Bob Hope, and Twilight Island. Taking center stage during Sergei's Theme will be clarinet soloist Bill Salatino. Kathy Hart will sing "It's Been A Long, Long Time", "White Cliffs of Dover", "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "I'll be Seeing You".

Sunday, June 21 - "Broadway Bound"
On Sunday, June 21 the band will play selections from The Sound of Music, a tribute to Sammy Davis Jr., a Lerner and Lowe medley, Die Fledermaus, Themes Like Old Times, and Great Themes from Italian Movies. Flugelhorn soloist Ed Seldin will be featured in Adagio for Band, while Aaron Sachs and his alto saxophone will be featured in Big Band Bossa. Kathy Hart will sing "You Say the Sweetest Things", "I Only Have Eyes for You", "Crazy", and "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To".

*Concert-goers must bring their own chairs or blankets.

*Free parking is available on North Broadway and nearby streets.

In the event of rain, both concerts will move indoors to the Charles Cola Community Center, located immediately inside the entrance to Untermyer Park.

These programs are presented by the Yonkers Department of Parks and Recreation and are co- sponsored by Local 38-398, American Federation of Musicians. For additional information, call the Yonkers Department of Parks and Recreation at 377-6440.
