World Class Water Organ Premiers Family Concert

Westchester Entertainment NewsMt. Kisco, NY - On Sunday, March 8, at 4pm, gifted organist Randall Atcheson, will introduce a whole new audience to the diverse appeal of the pipe organ during the “Family Tour of the Organ” concert at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, New York.

Mr. Atcheson, who began playing the piano at age six, has a distinguished artistic background that moves seamlessly between classical and contemporary music.

At The Juilliard School he became the only student in the school’s history allowed to pursue and receive simultaneous degrees in piano and organ performance. He was the winner of the first Juilliard Organ Competition and subsequently gave the premiere performance on the new pipe organ in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.  Mr. Atcheson was added to the distinguished international roster of Steinway Artists after making his Carnegie Hall debut in 1991.

The “Family Tour of the Organ” concert, will include performances of Bach’s toccata and fugue in d minor, Widor’s toccata from the fifth symphony, works of Boëllmann and Mulet, including several toccata’s for feet alone, as well as, popular and sacred tunes. Throughout the program, Mr. Atcheson will engage the audience with his own unique style as he makes the intricacies of the complex pipe organ entertainingly accessible to all. The concert is appropriate for ages eight and up.  It will appeal to seasoned and new organ lovers alike.

Featured as a guest on the nationally televised Gala of Stars from Radio City Music Hall Mr. Atcheson has performed at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and Blenheim Palace, England, and has made much-acclaimed piano debuts in Sydney, Australia; Jerusalem, Israel; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Paris, France. He played his ninth concert at Carnegie Hall in November 2008.

The “Family Tour of the Organ” continues the inaugural year concert series of the 2,640 pipe, 41 stop, three manual mechanical action “Water Organ”, installed at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco in 2008.  The final concert of the season, scheduled for April 25, 2009, will include performances by the finalists of the national von Beckerath Young Organist Competition.

Mr. Atcheson’s concert will be followed by a reception at the church.
