Katonah, NY - In celebration of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial, the Katonah Museum of Art (KMA) will offer a workshop for parents and children featuring food historian Peter G. Rose.
Through hands-on activities and a lecture, Rose will bring to life the culinary delights of Dutch colonial New Yorkers. Going Dutch: A Celebration of Dutch Colonial Food will take place on November 1 from 10am-12pm at the Museum. Admission is free. Space is limited to 25 children per session, ages 8-12 accompanied by an adult. Reservations are required. Please call (914) 232-9555, ext. 0.
Rose will first explore the history of Dutch colonial food during Henry Hudson's time and its niche in New York State History. Special topics will include culture, social customs and traditions. Following the discussion, children will make traditional Dutch colonial foods including baking cookies and churning butter.
Peter G. Rose is a member of the Speakers in the Humanities Program of the New York Council for the Humanities and has published many books on food history, including Food, Drink, and Celebrations of the Hudson Valley Dutch (The History Press, 2009). She received the 2002 Alice P. Kenney Award for research and writing on the food customs and diet of the Dutch settlers in New Netherland.
These workshops are part of the Katonah Museum of Art's Celebration of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial and are funded by the New York Council for the Humanities
