Valhalla, NY - George Orwell’s masterpiece, 1984, will be performed by the National Players on Saturday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m. in the Academic Arts Theatre at Westchester Community College.
This dramatic event is part of the college’s “Page 2 Stage” series showcasing printed works theatrically transformed.
“Big Brother is watching you!” This great modern classic of “Dystopia” is one in which a nightmarish world is dominated by Big Brother and his vast network of agents. Their mission, to suffocate freedom in a totalitarian world, is timelier than ever, and its warnings even more powerful. Orwell’s horrifying prediction for human society sounds the alarm of governmental forces run amok. National Players explores the dark side of progress in this epic struggle between man and state.
In operation since 1949, National Players is America’s longest running classical touring company. The troupe of young professional actors celebrates presents the world’s greatest dramatic literature. Currently a program of Olney Theatre Center, National Players has earned a unique name and place in American theater. After 53 consecutive seasons of touring, this remarkable acting company has presented nearly six thousand presentations or workshops on plays by Shakespeare, O’Neill, Moliere, Shaw, Kafka, Sophocles, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Tom Stoppard and Peter Shaffer. National Players has performed for the public in 35 states and 10 foreign countries, reaching young audiences in areas that are isolated geographically or economically; audiences that would otherwise never see quality live performances of classical plays.
