White Plains, NY - The White Plains Performing Arts Center (WPPAC) and the Westchester Philharmonic have announced a partnership for the 2009/2010 performance season.
The Westchester Philharmonic will perform a series of intimate chamber concerts at the theatre which is located on the third level of the City Center Complex in downtown White Plains. The Sunday matinee concerts will feature musicians from the orchestra and represent a musical journey from classical composers to contemporary jazz.
A brass quintet will celebrate the winter season on Sunday, December 6th with music from baroque to pops to holiday favorites. The concert will feature Wayne duMaine and Sycil Mathai on trumpet and Lawrence DiBello on horn, Michael Seltzer on trombone, and Ray Stewart on tuba.
On Sunday, February 28th, the Philharmonic’s string quartet will chase away the winter blues with music of Mendelssohn and Haydn. The quartet consists of Philharmonic Concertmaster Robert Chausow and Principal Second Michael Roth on violins; Jessica Troy on viola; and Principal cellist Eugene Moye.
The series concludes on Sunday, March 28th, with jazz music led by renowned Philharmonic percussionist Jim Saporito, along with pianist Ken Ascher and bassist Dick Sarpola. The trio will perform selections from The Great American Songbook and jazz originals from their new CD.
“The acoustics of the theater are superb,” said Joshua Worby, Executive Director of the Westchester Philharmonic. “The size of the theater, with 400 ample and comfortable seats creates an ideal setting for these concerts. For seasoned music-lovers, the series is pure delight, with the Philharmonic’s world-class musicians performing superb repertoire. For newcomers to classical music performances, particularly young people, the concerts are relaxed, affordable, ear-opening, and flat-out enjoyable.”
“We are very excited to partner with the Westchester Philharmonic” said John J. Ioris, chairman and president of WPPAC. “Our two organizations, each located in downtown White Plains, are well respected cultural institutions which enhance the quality of life for all members of our community through the presentation of outstanding performances. This initial chamber concert series should be the beginning of a very successful long term partnership in support of musical arts in Westchester County and the City of White Plains.”
All concerts begin at 2pm. Arrangements are being made with local White Plains restaurants to provide special brunch menus preceding each concert. The cost for a single concert ticket is $35. Those who purchase four or more tickets to the 2009/2010 White Plains Performing Arts Center productions will receive 25% off their season ticket purchases.
