Valhalla, NY - In the Summer Arts Odyssey Series at Westchester Community College (WCC), the kickoff musical theatre event features “Ain’t Misbehavin.”
This glorious musical will be performed on Saturday, June 7 at 8:00pm in the Academic Arts Theatre on the Valhalla campus.
When Ain’t Misbehavin’ opened on Broadway, it made history by winning every Tony Award, including best musical. “The opening night audience almost knocked the roof off with cheers,” reported William Glover in the Associated Press. Time Magazine called it a “stompin’, struttin’, high-hattin’ smash” and Clive Barnes predicted Ain’t Misbehavin’ will be “A joyous celebration that is going to cross the world.” Well that time is now, with an exciting new production of this award winning musical. Ain’t Misbehavin’ is an extraordinary musical because it encompasses 30 show-stopping musical numbers that takes you on a journey not only through the Fats Waller song book but through Harlem in its heyday. With snazzy period costumes, complete with bowlers and spats and ermine and pearls, the dynamic five member cast and a six piece band turn the theatre into a rollicking rent party. “Ain’t Misbehavin’ has a first act that will knock your ears off and a second that will come back for the rest of you.” said Walter Kerr in the Sunday Times. You don’t have to be a jazz buff to enjoy Ain’t Misbehavin’, like Fats himself, you just have to love a good time.
The joint is jumpin’ from start to finish with Waller classics like “Honeysuckle Rose” and “Squeeze Me” and hilariously naughty with “Your Feets Too Big” and “That Ain’t Right.” This fast paced romp takes you where the high-steppers partied, from honky tonk dives to the Cotton Club, from Tin Pan Alley to the Waldorf.
The second featured performance in the Summer Arts Odyssey Series features… “Five Guys Named Moe” on Sunday, July 13 at 2:00 pm in the Academic Arts Theatre. Single tickets for “Ain’t Misbehavin” and “Five Guys Named Moe” are $18 (general admission), $16 (students/ seniors) and children under 10 are free. A series subscription which includes both shows is $30 (… a $6 savings!)
