Trinity Irish Dance Coming To Purchase

Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsPurchase, NY - The world famous Trinity Irish Dance Company -- the celebrated Irish-American company that set the stage for shows including Riverdance and Lord of the Dance – comes to The Performing Arts Center Purchase College on Sunday, Feb. 10th at 5 p.m.

Founded in 1991, the Chicago-based repertory company was the first to make the leap from competition to a performance setting.  Its progressive style – weaves traditional Irish dance with elements of jazz, tap, ballet, and modern dance.  Emmy Award-winning choreographer Mark Howard uses Irish dance as an instrument and a metaphor; Trinity crosses both cultural and disciplinary boundaries. The result is a thoroughly fresh, engaging vision that never loses touch with its essence.

As the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel pointed out, “Trinity is not only the most interesting Irish dance company; it is one of the most interesting dance companies of any kind.”

The performance of the Trinity Irish Dance Company is part of The Performing Arts Center’s Marvels from around the Globe Series.  The series continues with Spirit of Uganda on Mar. 14th: a performance that also is part of this season’s Africa and the African Diaspora Series, a cross-campus programming initiative at Purchase College that explores traditions, revolutions and innovations within this rich culture.

Tickets are $50, $40 and $30.

For more information, and to buy tickets, contact The Performing Arts Center ticket office (914-251-6200) or log onto The Center’s website at http://www.artscenter.org.  MasterCard is the preferred card of The Performing Arts Center.

The Center's 30th season is made possible, in part, by the Basic Program Support Grant of the Westchester Arts Council with funds from Westchester County Government.

Purchase College is located 28 miles northeast of New York City at the Connecticut border.  The college, part of the State University of New York, is a major institution of public higher education encompassing the liberal arts and sciences, professional training in the performing and visual arts, continuing education, The Neuberger Museum of Art, and The Performing Arts Center.
