Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsWhite Plains, NY - Timothy Lewis celebrates 20 years as Downtown Music’s artistic and founding director by making his first-ever ‘featured’ appearance as organ soloist with Downtown Sinfonietta, the organization’s resident chamber orchestra.

They will perform Joseph Rheinberger’s rarely-heard Concerto for Organ, No 1 in F major. The program will include another concerto rarity - George Philipp Telemann’s Concerto in D major for Three Horns, Violin and Orchestra, short works by Grieg.Dvořák, and a special performance of Irish Tune for County Derry, to celebrate the 125th year of Percy Grainger’s birth. Featured soloists in the Telemann will be Alexs Ozolins, principal horn player for the Verbier (Switzerland) Orchestra, Natalie Lewis and Maria Harrold, both of Manhattan School of Music and the Florida West Coast Symphony. Laura Hamilton, associate concert master for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, will be the violin soloist. The Sinfonietta will be conducted by Vincent Lionti, principal violist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and director of the Greater Westchester Youth Orchestras.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 4 pm, at Grace Church, the intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue, downtown White Plains. Tickets are $25 (adults/general admission) and $20 (seniors/students). Children under 12 are admitted free if accompanied by a paying adult. Group discounts are available. Call 914-949-0384 or log on to dtmusic.org for instructions on how to purchase tickets, or to make a reservation. A “Meet the Artists” reception with delicacies provided by Susan Lawrence – Gourmet Food of Chappaqua, New York, follows the concert.

In 1988, when Timothy Lewis was hired as Music director/Organist for Grace Church in White Plains, he was asked to build an arts program to balance the soup kitchen and housing services that the church provided and still provides the community. The program was originally intended as an outreach tool for this historic church. The original budget was just $5,000 with about 20 professional performing artists in as many performances. The budget, now over $100,000, supports a season of over 70 performances in three different concert series and three resident chamber ensembles.

To celebrate Downtown Music’s 20th anniversary, a six-ticket discount package will be offered. The tickets can be used for any “Weekend Discoveries”, excluding the free Festival of Carols (Dec 16) Sharon Katz Workshop (Feb. 2), and can be used in any combination. The discounts: $100 for six full-priced tickets (a discount of $25) and $80 for five student/senior-priced tickets (a discount of $20). This offer will be available for a limited time.

All Downtown Music concerts take place at Grace Church, located at the intersection of Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue. The complete 2007-2008 schedule is now available online at dtmusic.org.
