White Plains, NY - Classical and modern, East and West intermingle in vocalist Monika Jalili’s Persia à l’Américaine, a multilingual musical performance presented as part of the LIVE @ the Arts Exchange series. Join Jalili and her ensemble NoorSaaz on Saturday, June 14th at 7:00 pm for a mythical night of traditional Persian folk and love songs.
Born and raised in New York City, Jalili discovered classical Persian music through her Iranian husband and his family. In 2005 she formed NoorSaaz and began transcribing traditional folk songs into English and French with hopes of bringing the beauty of Iranian music to a broad global audience. While remaining true to the words and melodies of the original compositions, Jalili innovates the classical songs with the addition of non-traditional instruments and through modern “funky” arrangements. Her interpretations have touched audiences around the globe, Iranians and non-Iranians alike.
Persia à l’Américaine will take place in the Grand Banking Room of the Arts Exchange, located at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in downtown White Plains.
The Arts Exchange is located at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains, next door to White Plains City Center. Tickets are available while supplies last and may be purchased by calling (914) 428-4220 x223, or by downloading the order form at www.westarts.com.
