Pleasantville, NY - The Insights & Revelations Performance Series in residence at the Rosenthal JCC at 600 Bear Ridge Road in Pleasantville, NY announces its second presentation of the 2007/2008 season: Symphony Space’s The Thalia Follies: A Political Cabaret. The performance will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 8:00 p.m.
Symphony Space’s The Thalia Follies: A Political Cabaret, New York City’s only political cabaret series, features songs, sketches and poetry on all the issues New Yorkers hold dear. Always funny and often moving, these original evenings created by Symphony Space’s Artistic Director Isaiah Sheffer with producer Martin Sage are guaranteed to get you talking and laughing. Regular Follies performers include Ivy Austin, David Buskin, Nora York, The Chalks, and more. Musical Director, Lanny Meyers.
Nothing is sacred in The Follies: Everything from the upcoming political election – where they’ll cut through the hot air and get right to the heart of all the empty promises- and the American obsession with diets and wellness, where they musically devour everything from Ayurveda to Zabar’s – gets a winking examination.
“I am so delighted to be bringing the cabaret form to The Insights & Revelations Performance Series for the first time, and with such a distinguished company as Symphony Space,” stated Series Producer Anna Becker. “The Thalia Follies will add a new dimension to the Series by offering our audiences some insights into the artistic process of creating and performing cabaret.”
The Insights & Revelations Performance Series is a 2007 Best of Westchester winner for Best New Performance Series and is known for bringing award-winning off-Broadway companies such as Classic Stage Company and The New Group to Westchester, as well as presenting a wide range of professional artists in live presentations and exhibits.
Presentations to follow later in the season include Wanderlust, written and performed by Martin Dockery, and a sneak preview - from the producers of the eight-time Tony Award-winning play Spring Awakening - of Port Authority, a new play by Tony-nominated playwright Conor McPherson (Shining City, The Weir, Dublin Carol).
