The fun begins with an all-you-can-eat barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and more. Enjoy a dip in the pool and swim under the stars, or just float in a big tube as you watch the movie on a big screen at sundown. Bring your own blankets and chairs for seating on the lawn.
The parties begin at 7 p.m.; the barbecue runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; the movie begins at sundown.
Admission is $10 per person, free for children under the age of 3. A Westchester County Park Pass is not required for admission to the party. Admission wristbands go on sale the day of the event and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled.
The series continues with a repeat showing of Evan Almighty on Tuesday, July 22, at Glen Island Beach in New Rochelle, followed by Flushed Away (PG, 2006) on Tuesday, July 29, at Willson’s Waves in Mount Vernon; Surf’s Up (PG, 2007) on Tuesday, August 5, at Sprain Ridge Pool in Yonkers; and concludes with Transformers (PG-13, 2007) on Friday, August 22, at Tibbetts Brook Pool in Yonkers. Please note that no swimming will be permitted during the party at Glen Island beach.
Evan Almighty stars actor/comedian Steve Carell as “Evan Baxter,” a newscaster from Buffalo, NY, who gets elected to Congress with the slogan “Change the World.” One morning, he wakes up to find a box of tools in his backyard, and is contacted by God (played by actor Morgan Freeman) who commands him to build an ark, just like his predecessor Noah, and fill it with animals to protect them from the upcoming flood. Baxter attributes it all to stress that is making him to go crazy, so it takes quite a bit of persuasion from God to get him going with the plan.
“Summer Movie Madness” is sponsored by Westchester County Parks.
Saxon Woods Pool is located at 1800 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains. It can be reached via the Hutchinson River Parkway, exit 23N. Head west off the exit; the park is one-quarter mile ahead on the left.
