Port Chester, NY - The Port Chester Council for the Arts, Inc., in conjunction with the Anthony J. Posillipo Community Center, presents “Comedy Through the Ages,” a readers’ theatre production of the best comedy material of the past 60 years, November 16 at 3 PM at Crawford Park Mansion, in Rye Brook, N.Y.
The production, directed by Camille Linen with musical direction by Donna Cribari, features senior citizens from Rye Brook and Port Chester. Admission is free, but donations are strongly suggested. Doors open at 2 PM. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Council office at 914-939-3183.
The Crawford Park Mansion is located off of Ridge Street in Rye Brook, N.Y.
The hourlong show features the comedy of Burns and Allen, Allen’s Alley, Nichols and May, Jules Feiffer, Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Rowan and Martin’s “Laugh-In” and Shel Silverstein, plus original skits by Peter Brancucci. The production also includes some of the best music of the past 60 years beginning with the 1940s.
The cast includes Rye Brook residents Peter Brancucci, Clem Patafio, Bernice Marino, Anita Penchina, Lucille Porto, Mary Simons, Gloria Orzo, Aramita Vaccaro, Belle Harris and Port Chester resident Sonny Orlovitz. The cast has been participating in a weekly theater workshop class for the past five years run by Linen and the Port Chester Council for the Arts at the Posillipo Center. In the workshops they have created original productions and revues which they perform every spring.
“Comedy through the Ages” was first presented at the Posillipo Center in June then to a theater class at Blind Brook High School, to rave reviews.
Camille Linen is a co-founder of the Port Chester Council for the Arts and continues to serve as its Education Director. She has initiated community arts-based programs for children and seniors at seven elementary schools and at community, church and senior centers.
Composer, musician and musical director Donna Cribari is a founding member of the Port Chester Council for the Arts and was recently awarded Westchester’s Cab Calloway award for lifetime achievement in the arts. She is the composer of many historic-based musicals.
The Port Chester Council for the Arts (PCCFA) was founded in 1981 and has mounted over 100 theatre productions which have featured over 2,000 adults and children. The PCCFA also runs educational arts-based programs including the Connections after-school program and an artist-in-residence program for grades K-5 in conjunction with the Port Chester elementary schools. On April 15, 2009, it will present the second annual National Arts in the School Day, a program founded by the PCCFA to give thousands of children the opportunity to learn about and be personally inspired by the creative arts—at school.
