Mt. Kisco, NY - The Saturday Evenings with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra series continues with a program of “Summer Serenades,” Saturday, July 12, at Lasdon Park, Arboretum, and Veterans Memorial in Somers.
Pack a picnic supper and enjoy the soothing sounds of timeless classical music in the serene setting of beautiful Lasdon Park.
The concert series is presented by the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra and Westchester County Parks, and sponsored by Diversified Investment Advisors, Swiss Re, the Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc., and Friends of Lasdon Park & Arboretum.
Maestro Petko Dimitrov will conduct the orchestra in this program, which includes Serenade No. 12 in C, K.388 by Mozart; Serenade in E flat, op.7 by Richard Strauss; and Serenade in D, op.44 by Dvorak.
The program will also feature Bassoonery, as special guest performers. This quartet of bassoonists from Fairfield County, Connecticut formed in 2005 to share their love of the under-appreciated bassoon, and the wide range of music written for it, with audiences.
The Saturday Evenings with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra series continues as follows:
Saturday, July 19: “An Evening at the Opera,” an evening of overtures and arias from operas by Bizet, Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, and Verdi, featuring guest artists Caroline Chanin, mezzo-soprano and William Joyner, tenor.
Saturday, July 26: “Early Classics” with compositions by Handel, Mozart and Beethoven.
The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra is one of the region’s cultural treasures. The orchestra debuted in 1965, and since then has grown to a full-scale orchestra of 70 to 100 professional musicians with a seven-concert regular season. The RSO, which has become an outstanding orchestral ensemble with first-rate soloists, plays to near-capacity houses and garners rave reviews.
Petko Dimitrov is Assistant Conductor for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Dimitrov has been studying and working in the United States since 2001, but has been a student of music since his childhood. In his native country of Bulgaria, he has studied with such conductors as Ivan Bakalov, Vassil Kazandjiev, and Rossen Milanov. He has also been active as a conductor of a chamber ensemble of The New Symphony Orchestra.
Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, $7 for children 6 – 12 and free for children under age 6. All proceeds from sales of tickets benefit the Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc. for the purpose of constructing the Glass House Conservatory – a large greenhouse – at the arboretum.
The gates open at 5 p.m. for picnicking; the music begins at 6 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate on the evening of the performance.
