Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsPurchase, NY - Purchase College presents a New Media lecture, “The Local,” with artist and educator Amy Franceschini February 13 at 6:30 PM in the Neuberger Museum of Art.

Ms. Franceschini will present work that questions the role of technology in art and in our everyday lives, and discuss how the local relates to larger global issues.

The lecture, which is co-sponsored by the New Media program and the Neuberger Museum of Art, is free and open to the public.

Amy Franceschini works with notions of community, sustainability and a perceived conflict between humans and nature. Her work manifests “on-” and “offline” in the form of dynamic websites, installations, open-access laboratories, and educational formats that collectively question or challenge social, political and economic systems we live in.

Ms. Franceschini founded Futurefarmers in 1995 and Free Soil in 2004. Futurefarmers is a group aligned through an open practice of making work that is relevant to the time and space surrounding us. Free Soil is an international hybrid collaboration of artists, activists, researchers and gardeners who take a participatory role in the transformation of the environment.

Her work has been published and exhibited internationally, and her solo and collaborative works have been included in exhibitions at ZKM, the Whitney Museum, New York MoMA, and San Francisco MoMa. Ms. Franceschini received her BFA from San Francisco State University and her MFA from Stanford University. She is currently a professor of art at the University of San Francisco and on the visiting faculty at California College of the Arts.
