White Plains, NY - In conjunction with the “It All Started Here,” animation exhibition, ArtsWestchester will present a presentation and discussion on the application of sound effects to animations with acclaimed sound designer Fred Weinberg.
The program entitled, ZOOM, BOING, SMASH! will take place on Saturday, February 21 from 1-2 pm, at The Arts Exchange, the headquarters of ArtsWestchester, at 31 Mamaroneck Avenue in downtown White Plains.
Widely considered one of the leading music and sound designers worldwide, Mr. Weinberg has received an Emmy Award as well as numerous Clio Awards for his production work on soundtracks, films, TV, records and commercials. His present projects include work on “The Big Adventures of Little Shawn and Gus,” animated segment on “Psych,” a popular television program on USA Networks, a Jestons themed Tums commercial, as well as soundtracks for AT&T and Charmins commercials.
The program is geared toward all ages (children and adults). Mr. Weinberg will discuss current practices in applying sound to animation, share audio samples, answer questions, and lead children and adults in a “guess the sound effect” game.
Afterwards event participants can view the sprawling “It All Started Here” exhibition, which encompasses the upper and lower-level galleries of the Arts Exchange. The exhibition traces the history of the animation industry in Westchester County and New York City. Visitors will get a behind-the-scenes look at how animated characters develop, from sketches….to storyboards…to the finished characters that we all know and love.
Along the way visitors will meet their favorite characters….from Gertie the Dinosaur (1914), to Betty Boop (1930’s), Mighty Mouse (late 1940’s/early 1950’s), Popeye (1950’s), Beavis and Buthead (1990’s), Doug (2000’s) ….and many others. It All Started Here is curated by J.J. Sedelmaier and Howard Beckerman. A related film screening of Blue Sky Studios’ feature film Ice Age and their earlier short film Bunny will take place on Monday, February 23 at 5:30 & 7:30 p.m. at The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville.
