Scarsdale, NY – The Play Group Theatre for children and young adults (PGT) kicks off its spring 2008 season with the musicals, Children’s Letters to God and A New Brain at the Bendheim Performing Arts Center in Scarsdale.
PGT’s spring season begins with a musical adaptation of Stuart Hample’s best-selling book, Children’s Letters to God. This heart-warming musical brings to the stage those timeless questions all children have asked at one time or another. But, these kids are going straight to the Boss for the answers. Through music and laughter, this entertaining show explores such universal issues as sibling rivalry, divorce, the trials of being un-athletic, and first love.
Children’s Letters to God is directed by Jill Abusch, Artistic Director of The Play Group Theatre, and musical directed by Evelyn Troester. Book by Stuart Hample, Music by David Evans, and Lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen. Based on the international best-selling book by Stuart Hample and Eric Marshall.
Following Children’s Letters is William Finn’s funny and soul-stirring autobiographical musical, A New Brain. First produced Off-Broadway at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center, this quirky musical was written by the same team that brought you The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. After collapsing in a restaurant, composer Gordon Schwinn sets off on a wild, phantasmagorical ride through his subconscious mind. Gordon's nearest and sometimes dearest try to keep his mind at ease, even as he’s being haunted by visions of his boss, a children’s television show host, who attempts to exacerbate his greatest fear — that he will never accomplish a work of lasting worth.
A New Brain is directed by Jeff Downing with musical direction by Andrew Fox. Music and Lyrics by William Finn; Book by James Lapine and William Finn.
Children’s Letters to God performs on Sundays, May 4 and 11 at 2pm and 7pm. A New Brain performs Thursday, May 22 at 7pm; Sunday, May 25 at 2pm and 7pm; and Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day) at 1pm. All performances are held at the Bendheim Performing Arts Center, 999 Wilmot Road in the Scarsdale JCC.
Single tickets for each production are $15. Group tickets are available for $12 (for groups of 20 or more at a single performance). For tickets and information, please call the PGT Box Office at (914) 946-4433 or order tickets online.
