White Plains, NY - The Play Group Theatre for children and young adults (PGT) kicks of its 2008- 2009 season with Romeo & Juliet, running December 20 and 21, Urinetown, running January 8, 10, and 11, and HONK!, running January 17 and 18.
This fall, audiences will witness the classic love story of Romeo and Juliet come to life, laugh uproariously to the spunky and clever musical comedy Urinetown, and cheer for the beauty which lies within as Ugly the Duckling tells his story in HONK!
PGT’s fall season begins with the famous tale of forbidden romance. This elegant and eloquent performance of Romeo & Juliet makes clear why Shakespeare's poetic love story has won the hearts of audiences around the world. When a family quarrel threatens to divide their pining love asunder, Romeo and Juliet will go to any length to remain together. Get swept away with romance and sword play in this Must See PGT theater classic.
Romeo & Juliet was one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays during the late 16th/early 17th centuries and still remains one of his most popular today. It has been adapted for film, opera, ballet, and musical theatre (West Side Story).
Romeo & Juliet is directed by Jill Abusch, Artistic Director of The Play Group Theatre.
Romeo & Juliet performs on Saturday, December 20 at 8pm and Sunday, December 21 at 2:00 and 7:00pm at Irvington Town Hall Theatre, 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY.
Following Romeo & Juliet, enjoy a fresh perspective on modern musical theatre: the clever and hilarious Urinetown.
One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Will the people fight for the right to go when nature calls?
With music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, URINETOWN is directed and choreographed by Jeff Downing with musical direction by Evi Troester.
Urinetown performs on Thursday, January 8 at 7:00pm, Saturday, January 10 at 8:00pm, and Sunday, January 11 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, at the Emelin Theatre, 153 Library Lane, Mamaroneck, NY 10543. So funny, you’ll have to go twice (once before the show and again during intermission!)
Join us for the last play of the Fall 2008 season, HONK! Take the story of the Ugly Duckling and add some spunk, a whole lot of heart, and some very catchy tunes and you get HONK!
Honk!, winner of Britain's Olivier Award for Best New Musical, is the story of Ugly, whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry Cat, Ugly must find his way home. Along his rollicking and harrowing journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms. Always witty and at times deeply moving, Honk! is a veritable Thanksgiving feast of fun and fowl folly.
With music and lyrics by Anthony Drewe, and book and lyrics by George Stiles, HONK! is directed by Stephanie Kovacs-Cohen and choreographed by Jeff Downing with musical direction by Ben Krauss.
HONK! performs on Saturday, January 17 at 8:00pm, Sunday, January 18 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm, at the Irvington Town Hall Theatre, 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY. This is fun for the whole family!
Single tickets for each production are $15. Group tickets are available for $12 (for groups of 20 or more at a single performance). For tickets and information, please call the PGT Box Office at (914) 946-4433 or order online at www.playgroup.org.
