Pelham, NY - The Picture House has announced two new film events for the Reel Insider, a series which presents preview screenings of independent, foreign and documentary films, hosted by top film critics and often involving discussions with actors or filmmakers.
Each event is presented on Tuesday nights, 5 times a season. The summer season, which is the first, has run from June through August. Tickets can be purchased as a series subscription or to individual events. Every screening will include a complimentary reception with refreshments, starting at 7:00 p.m., the film at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a critic-led discussion.
On July 21st, the Picture House will be presenting the Sundance and Tribeca film festival favorite, the British political satire IN THE LOOP. The film stars James Gandolfini in an ensemble cast. David Edelstein, film critic for New York magazine will host the event with actor David Rasche as his guest. With razor-sharp, truly laugh-out-loud dialogue the film pokes fun at the absurdity and ineptitude of our highest leaders. With everyone looking out for number one, and the fate of the free world at stake (but apparently incidental), the hilarious ensemble cast of characters bumbles its way through Machiavellian political dealings, across continents, and toward unforeseeable comic resolutions. The film is released theatrically by IFC Films on July 24th.
On July 28th, the series continues with COLD SOULS. Director Sophie Barthes will be present for a discussion with a film critic. Balancing on a tightrope between deadpan humor and pathos, and reality and fantasy, the film presents Paul Giamatti as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of “Uncle Vanya.” Paralyzed by anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by extracting souls. An official selection of the Sundance, Seattle and Los Angeles film festivals, the film also stars David Strathairn, Dina Korzun and Emily Watson. The film is released theatrically by Samuel Goldwyn Films on August 7th.
“This unique preview series is an opportunity to bring together moviegoers from all over the region, introduce them to a diversity of programming, and expand our film community,” said Jennifer Christman, Executive Director of the Picture House.
“Audiences are being exposed to films from all over the world that they otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to see, with the added value of critical discussion and analysis. We want audiences to experience movies in a way that cannot be replicated at the standard multiplex,” said Will McCord, Producer of Film Programs. He added, “The pre-screening wine receptions are also allowing our audiences to connect and talk about film in a meaningful way.”
Tickets for the Reel Insider series are available now on the Picture House website, www.thepicturehouse.org. Information on the upcoming dates and films for the series will be published on the website as well.
