Past And Present Exhibit Opens In Cross River

Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsMt. Kisco, NY - A new one-person show titled Past and Present, featuring photographs indoors and sculpture outdoors by Rockland artist Grace Knowlton opens on Friday, May 22, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gallery in the Park at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River.

Inside the gallery, the exhibit focuses on Knowlton’s recent exploration of an ancient workhorse for craftspeople: the saw horse. Pastels, paints and inks highlight their form, utility, and beauty while sometimes “animating” the horses in altered abstract, yet life-like images.

Spilling outside the gallery, Knowlton’s signature sculptured globes dot the spring meadows. The artist’s intrigue with both the interior and the exterior form of the sphere are evident in the massive and miniature balls she has crafted of fiber, metal, and concrete. With their placement on the bucolic landscape of the Reservation, the sculptures nestle like sheep yet seem to move.

Grace Knowlton received her MFA from Columbia University and has taught at the Art Students League among many other teaching posts. She has been widely exhibited and is represented in collections worldwide.

“Past and Present” will remain on exhibit daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through September 10. Admission is free; parking is $4 with a Westchester County Park Pass, $8 without the pass.

The Gallery in the Park is part of the Westchester County Art in Parks program, which brings changing exhibitions of sculpture, paintings, murals and other forms of artwork to Westchester County Parks for the appreciation of visitors of all ages.

Ward Pound Ride Reservation is a Westchester County park and is located at the junction of Route 35 and 121 South in Cross River. It can be reached via I-684 to exit 6, Katonah/Cross River. Head east off the exit; the park is four miles ahead on the right.
