Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsPurchase, NY - The Purchase Repertory Theatre (PRT) presents The Last Days of Judas Iscariot by Stephen Adly Guirgis, a comic fantasy in Purgatory where the conviction of Jesus’ betrayer is being appealed.

Performances are October 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 at 8 PM and October 18 and 19 at 2 PM at the Purchase College Performing Arts Center.

Set in a courtroom in Purgatory, the witnesses at the trial include Satan, a hanging judge from the 19th century, Mother Teresa, Sigmund Freud as well as Caiaphas and Pontius Pilate.  In this play the author of Jesus Hopped the A Train and Our Lady of 121st Street creates a wild comic fantasia.  At issue is not only the fate of Judas’s soul but the nature of God Himself and the very meaning of forgiveness.

A. Dean Irby directs the play.  He is Associate Professor and Co-Chair of Acting at the Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Theatre Arts & Film.  Irby is a veteran director and actor of Broadway and Off-Broadway, as well as regional and college theatre.  A professional director for the past 20 years, he has directed more than 60 stage productions for the New York Shakespeare Festival, Arena Stage, Crossroads, Theatre and Arizona Civic Theatre, among others.  He is recipient of two Audelco Awards for his direction of the original production of Home for the Negro Ensemble Company and Boogie Woogie and Booker T, for the New Federal Theatre.  He is a former acting coach for the cast that featured guests of The Cosby Show and for Malcolm Jamal Warner of the NBC situation comedy Here and Now.

The Purchase Repertory Theatre creates exciting and bold interpretations of classic and contemporary plays while bringing to the stage for the first time the next generation of actors, designers and technicians.

Tickets are $20 general public and $15 for seniors and students and can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 914-251-6200 or visiting www.artscenter.org.

Purchase College, State University of New York, is located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase , NY.
