Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsKatonah, NY - As part of a series of events celebrating Bold, Cautious, True: Walt Whitman and American Art of the Civil War Era now on exhibit, the Katonah Museum of Art (KMA) presents novelist Benjamin Cheever in An Evening With Walt.

Cheever will be joined by friends from the KMA community as they read and explore the words of Walt Whitman at the Museum on Sunday, November 15 at 5:30pm. Reservations for this free event can be made by calling (914) 232-9555 ext. 0.

“An Evening With Walt” will connect Whitman’s poetry to the visual arts of the period using Bold, Cautious, True as a backdrop. Cheever will re-imagine the voice of Whitman, reading excerpts from Song of Myself with select members of the community responding with contemporary works by Ezra Pound, Langston Hughes, and Alan Ginsberg, among others. Readers include author and Katonah resident Judy Blundell, 2008 National Book Award winner for the young adult novel What I Saw and How I Lied.

Benjamin Cheever is a novelist (The Plagiarist, The Partisan, Famous After Death, The Good Nanny) and reporter whose work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Nation. He is also the editor of The Letters of John Cheever and has taught at Bennington College and The New School for Social Research.

The Katonah Museum of Art is located at 134 Jay Street (Route 22) in Katonah, NY.  For information call 914-232-9555 or visit www.katonahmuseum.org.
