Westchester Arts & Entertainment NewsWhite Plains, NY - The White Plains Public Library is pleased to announce the opening of a new art show called Point of View, featuring the artwork of Raazia Chandoo and Tova Snyder.

The show opens in the Library’s Museum Gallery on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 with an artists’ reception from 6 to 8 PM.  The exhibit will be on display through September 2008.  Kathleen Masterson is guest curator for this show.

Raazia Chandoo was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She attended Rhode Island School of Design from 1983 to 1985 and completed her BFA Degree at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn in 1987 where she settled after her marriage.   She lives in NY with her husband and children and spends her time between NY and Karachi.  After receiving training in the Western idiom Raazia has applied Eastern traditions to her paintings to create an admixture of Pop, Op and geometric elements where they combine to form a mesh in which optical illusion plays a visual game.  Chandoo, an Armonk resident, will also show her handmade sculptural necklaces for the first time.

International painter and muralist Tova Snyder was born in New York City to artist parents. She was raised in Israel, in Provincetown, Mass. and in Rye, New York.  She graduated from Yale University and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art.  She studied one year in Rome.  Public art and paintings on canvas have been the focus of Tova’s professional life.  With a palette that conveys warmth and multi-colored luminosity, Tova’s paintings look at human dwellings from the air, interpreting the patterns and shapes of man’s urban clusters and their relation to nature.  Her roofscapes incorporate architectural elements from her extensive travels.

This exhibit is made possible with assistance from Friends of the White Plains Public Library and The City of White Plains.  Summer Museum Gallery hours are 10 AM - 9 PM, Monday through Wednesday; 10 AM - 6 PM Thursday and Friday; and 1 PM – 5 PM, Saturday.  The library is located at 100 Martine Avenue, White Plains.
