Bronxville, NY - Soprano Claire Simard, cellist Annette Espada, and guitarist David Veslocki join Concordia Conservatory faculty as they present music and song that explore the nature of being outside society at the OSilas Gallery at Concordia College in Bronxville, NY on Sunday, November 22, at 4 p.m.
The MUSIC IN THE GALLERY series offers concerts that enhance the exhibitions in the OSilas Gallery. The Gallery is free, and open to the public Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 5 pm. Opened in September 2006, this spectacular venue for the display and study of artwork in every imaginable medium replaced the Concordia Gallery, which had been mounting exhibitions for 30 years.
Until December 10, the show at the OSilas Gallery is TELL ’EM THAT IT’S HUMAN NATURE: AN EXHIBITION OF OUTSIDER ART. This exhibition pairs the art of Philip March Jones and selected artists from the Latitude Art Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Curated by Blain Vandenburg, Independent Curator, artists included are Beverly Baker, Hawkins Bolden, Rebecca Elder, Jessie Dunahoo, Tony Dunn, Allen Jones, Phillip March Jones, Paul McGurl, Kenny Taylor, Mose Tolliver, Lafaithia Turner, and Charlie Williams.
Under the leadership of Bruce Burris and Crystal Bader, Latitude has grown into a full-time studio arts program and a full-time community organization and advocacy group. The members of Latitude are all considered to have a disability, but that does not prevent them from being engaged citizens and aspiring artists. The unintended consequence of Latitude's commitment to its members and our larger community is that the rest of us are made aware of our own limitations, but more importantly, of our own strengths. Latitude's force of will is contagious and its creations beautiful. .
