Purchase, NY - On Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 4:00 p.m., the Manhattanville College Chorus under the direction of Martin Rutishauser will perform with three choruses from New York City: Convent of the Sacred Heart, Collegiate School, and the Collegiate Singers with full orchestra.
The concert will take place in the O’Byrne Chapel on the College campus at 2900 Purchase Street, Purchase, New York.
The program will include Dettingen Te Deum by George Frideric Handel and Trumpet Concerto by Antonio Vivaldi. The Dettingen Te Deum is one of Handel's most exuberant works. It was written to celebrate the military victory of allied England and Austria over the French in 1743. Because of its popularity, the Te Deum became the subsequent music of choice at English royal ceremonial occasions. Its prominent use of three trumpets and timpani in the orchestra lend it an air of brilliance and majesty, which are enhanced by O'Byrne Chapel's cathedral-like acoustics and by the chorus of 125 singers that will be singing in this concert.
Soloists for this concert are Manhattanville student Jenna Gunnip ‘10, soprano; Leslie Valentine, alto; Scott Clausen, tenor; Lawrence Long, bass from the New York City Opera; and David Glukh, trumpet.
Tickets are $15.00 for General Admission and $10.00 for Students and Senior Citizens and they may be purchased at the door.
