Purchase, NY - Grammy nominated guitarist Doug Munro, Mamaroneck, headlines a concert at the Iridium Jazz Club, 1659 Broadway in New York City, on August 20 at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM.
A member of the Purchase College faculty, he is celebrating his 20th anniversary as a recording artist. Munro will bring his acclaimed trio of drummer Jason Devlin and bassist Michael Goetz to the Iridium for a concert of Latin flavored jazz by a master guitarist in an intimate setting. The session will be recorded and released as a CD at a future date.
Munro’s latest recording Big Boss Bossa Nova 2.0 has been called “a marvelous session of bossa-shaded music performed by a master guitarist in one of the finest releases of this new year,” by Edward Blanco of Allaboutjazz.com.
Munro created the Jazz Studies Program at the Purchase College School of the Arts, Conservatory of Music and served as its director from 1993-2002. He continues to teach in the program as Director Emeritus.
Since 1987, Munro has released 10 albums as a leader and has appeared on close to 75 recordings as a sideman, producer and arranger. He has worked with a diverse array of artists include Dr. John, Michael Brecker and Lonnie Smith.
His published compositions total over 75, with 300 recorded arrangements by the finest players on the scene today.
He has received two Grammy nominations and two NAIRD awards. He also did orchestration work on the Oscar winning documentary When We Were Kings.
