Local Bands Battle Off At MDA Summer Camp
Posted by Westchester.com
Friday, 15 August 2008

Westchester Entertainment NewsHawthorne, NY - Winter Ashes, Time for Plan B, and the Tim Blane Band may not sound like typical names for local heroes, but on August 19 they will be. The two local bands will be participating in a “Battle of the Bands” Tuesday night at the Muscular Dystrophy Association summer camp in Spring Valley, NY.

Visions Camp is the host to the MDA Summer camp which provides a weeklong “getaway” for over 70 youth from cities throughout New York, New Jersey and Fairfield County, Connecticut .

Winter Ashes, Time for B and Tim Blane via CD will be entertaining a crowd of MDA staff, volunteers and Campers affected by neuromuscular disease while competing for the top prize of “Best Band 2008” as voted on by the campers.

The “Battle of the Bands” competition is one of the many activities that campers will be participating in during their week. MDA camp programs offer the unique experience for young people with neuromuscular diseases to participate in a variety of activities that help develop friendships; share interests and build self confidence. In 2008, MDA will send almost 5,000 kids with neuromuscular diseases to MDA summer camps across the country. Campers between the ages of 6 and 18 enjoy activities that are specially adapted for them. The camper fee is covered entirely by generous support from local corporations, groups and individuals who raise funds to support MDA and so no cost is incurred by the family.

Winter Ashes, Time for Plan B are Rockland County Bands that have competed before in the Rockland Music Fest in Nyack.

MDA is a voluntary health agency dedicated to helping more than one million Americans affected by neuromuscular disorders through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far reaching professional and public health education.
