Garrison, NY - For the first time in their 22 year history, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival is extending their season. The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) sold out so quickly and reviews have been so universally positive, four performances have been added on September 3, 4, 5 and September 7.
Show times are 7pm, September 3, 4; 8pm on September 5, and 6pm September 7.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) is an irreverent, hilarious romp through thirty-seven plays in ninety-seven minutes performed by three actors from the HVSF ensemble, Noel Velez, Christopher V. Edwards and Jason O’Connell. “We are thrilled with the response to the show and happy that everything fell into place so that we could extend the run,” said Founding Artistic Director Terrence O’Brien, who also directed the show.
Perched high up on the banks of the Hudson River on the grounds of the historic 19th Century Boscobel estate in Garrison, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival is the region’s only professional resident Shakespeare company, lauded as one of the finest Festivals of its kind in the United States. Using the dramatic views of the Hudson Highlands and the sweeping vistas from the elegant lawns of Boscobel as near perfect backdrops, the critically acclaimed Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival presents unparalleled productions under an open-air tent theater. To make the experience even more unique, audience members are invited to arrive two hours early in order to enjoy a picnic meal - with one of the most spectacular al fresco views - on the grounds of the estate.
Peter D. Kramer of The Journal News wrote: If it hadn’t been written by California’s Reduced Shakespeare Company, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” might easily have been written by the always inventive Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival. It’s certainly in keeping with O’Brien & Co.’s emphasis on character, words and performance. It’s smart and fast and thoroughly accessible.
Ticket prices for all performances are $30-$38 and are available through the HVSF Box Office, 845-265-9575 and online at www.hvshakespeare.org.
