Scarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School will present pianist Sayaka Tanikawa with fellow faculty artists on its HB Artist Series on Sunday, February 3 at 4 pm at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church, Popham and Autenrieth Roads, Scarsdale.
Ms. Tanikawa will be joined on the program by violinist April Johnson; violist Chi-Chi Lin Bestmann; and cellist Peter Seidenberg.
Ms. Tanikawa has received more than 20 first prizes and top honors in national and international piano competitions, among them the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin International Competition. Her solo appearances with orchestras include the Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic, and Philharmonia Virtuosi; solo New York appearances feature Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Caramoor Festival. Her international performances extend from Tokyo to the Netherlands. In the 2005-2006 concert season she has appeared as a soloist with the Beethoven Festival held at De Paul University as well as in chamber music performance at Ohji Hall in Tokyo. An active educator, she was a member of the piano faculty and Artist-in-Residence of South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in their summer honors program from 2002-2004.
The program will include two Scarlatti piano sonatas; the Beethoven Sonata in E Major, Opus 109; and Mozart’s Piano Quarter in g minor, K. 478.
Admission for the concert is $14 general; $13 seniors; $12 Friends of Hoff-Barthelson, and free of charge for students.
