Westchester Entertainment NewsScarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School is pleased to present soprano Jenny Hayden in an HB Artist Series recital on Sunday, March 9 at 4 pm at Scarsdale Community Baptist Church, Popham and Autenrieth Roads in Scarsdale. She will be joined by pianist David Oei.

The eclectic recital program will include several selections from Robert Schumann’s Lieder Album für die Jugend, Opus 79; three songs by Ernest Chausson, Les Papillons, Le Colibri, and Amour d’Antan;  Bizet’s Chanson d’Avril and Massenet’s Elégie; a suite of songs by Franz Schubert; and Andre Previn’s spirited Sallie Chisum remembers Billy the Kid and Menotti’s Hello! Hello! Oh, Margaret, it’s You, from The Telephone.

An artist who is at home in both concert and opera performances, Ms. Hayden has been hailed by critics as “a pearl of coloratura flexibility and sheer charm.”  She is known in Europe for her operatic roles, but here in the United States has turned her attention to recital and chamber music performance. As both soprano soloist and narrator, Ms. Hayden has offered dramatic performances of Jon Deak’s Rapunzel and Bruce Adolphe’s Little Red Riding Hood. She has sung at the Yale Center for British Art; among her many credits are Festivals such as  Marlboro and Aspen and appearances with the Chautauqua Opera, Chattanooga Opera, the West Virginia Symphony and the Treasure Coast Opera of Florida. Last year she sang Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with the Walla Walla Symphony and presented the world premiere of Elfrida Andrée’s Svanen with that ensemble.

David Oei was a soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic at the age of nine and has since performed with major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh and Baltimore Symphonies. As a guest artist, he has performed with the Audubon Quartet, Da Capo Chamber Players, St. Luke’s and Orpheus Chamber Ensembles; and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Mr. Oei is the founding Director of the Salon Chamber Soloists and a founding member of the Aspen Soloists, the Festival Chamber Music Society, and the Intimate P.D.Q. Bach. Television credits include Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts, the Today Show, and CBS News Sunday Morning.  He has recorded a wide range of chamber works for Delos, ADDA, Vanguard, Pro Arte, Arabesque, Grenadilla and New World Records.

The Hoff-Barthelson Music School, one of Westchester County’s most cherished and active cultural resources, has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach for more than half a century.

Admission to the concert is $14 adults, $13 seniors, $12 Friends of Hoff-Barthelson, and free of charge to students.  Information: 914-723-1169
