Hoff Barthelson Presents Festival Orchestra

Westchester Entertainment NewsScarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School is pleased to announce that its Festival Orchestra will perform in the Recital Hall at the Purchase Theatres on Sunday, June 1 at 7 pm with internationally celebrated guest violinist, Mayumi Fujikawa.

The Music School will feature its ensemble this year as the highlight of its Prelude to Summer Annual Benefit. 

The Festival Orchestra, a full symphonic ensemble, has been lauded as one of the finest high school orchestras in the United States by the New York State Council on the Arts. The Festival Orchestra presents five full symphonic concerts each year, of which two concerts are performed with guest artists of international stature. The Music School uses an Orchestral Training Pyramid unique in substance, structure and quality to guide young orchestral players through increasingly rigorous ensemble training, until they are ready to audition for seats in the top-level Festival Orchestra.

At the June 1 concert the Orchestra will be joined in the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Opus 26 by its guest artist, Mayumi Fujikawa.  Also on the program will be selections from Aaron Copland’s Rodeo and the Schumann Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, Opus 97, (The Rhenish).

Mayumi Fujikawa's concert activities have taken her to South America, the Far East, Israel, Asia and her native Japan. Her United States career began with a spectacular debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Eugene Ormandy and has since widened to include appearances with virtually all the major US orchestras. Eminent conductors with whom she has worked include Daniel Barenboim, Sir Andrew Davis, Charles Dutoit, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Sergio Ozawa, Andre Previn, Kurt Sanderling, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Sir Simon Rattle.  She has been a guest at many prestigious Festivals, including Aldeburgh, Edinburgh, the London Proms, Ravinia, Saratoga and Tanglewood. She has recorded the complete sonatas of Prokofiev and Fauré and the Tchaikovsky and Bruch concerti with the Rotterdam Philharmonic. Her recording of Mozart concerti has received outstanding critical acclaim, and her BBC Television series "Mayumi Plays Mozart" has been broadcast throughout Great Britain, Canada and the United States.

Hoff-Barthelson Music School is a nationally recognized institution that has maintained a tradition of excellent in music education and performance, and has provided unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach, since 1944.  Its enrollment of over 1800 students receives superb music training in the classics and jazz from an 85-member faculty which includes some of the nation’s most distinguished educators and musicians.  Students at all levels of technical skill and musical expertise participate in a multitude of chamber music ensembles, master classes and student recitals, and the School’s annual Baroque & Beyond and Contemporary Music Festivals, achieving an annual level of performance unsurpassed at the community music school level.
