Westchester Entertainment NewsScarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School is pleased to present two of its viola faculty members in a joint recital that also features several other of its most exciting performance faculty members.

Chi-Chi Lin and Naomi Rooks will be joined by Eriko Sato and Claire Bright, violinists; Michael Finckel on cello; and harpsichordist Glen Kirchoff at the performance, which will be held on Sunday, January 20 at 4 pm at the Scarsdale Community Baptist Church, Popham and Autenrieth Roads, Scarsdale.

The eclectic program will include  Baroque pieces by Telemann, his Canonic Sonata # 2 for Two Violas and the J.S. Bach Brandenburg Concerto # 6 in B-Flat Major; Mozart’s Quintet in G minor, KV 516; and, in a leap to an undefined century and period, P.D.Q. Bach’s Sonata for Viola Four Hands and Harpsichord, written sometime between 1807-1742, the reputed dates for the life and career of the legendary composer who was discovered by the equally legendary Professor Peter Schickele.

Chi-Chi Lin is a native of Taiwan who began her musical career at the age of three. She studied violin initially, and moved to the viola in 1997. As the winner of the Mannes College Lower-Strings Competition in 1999, she was featured as a guest soloist at Symphony Space. Known as a conductor and chamber musician, she has performed extensively and is a former assistant conductor and faculty member of the Children’s Orchestra Society of New York. In April 2000, Ms. Lin was invited to participate at the International Musician’s Seminar in Prussia Cove, England.

Naomi Graf Rooks, viola, performs a wide variety of programs as a chamber musician, recital soloist and orchestral musician.  She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and has toured with Luciano Pavarotti. She has been broadcast live on WQXR from Trinity Church with the Rebel Baroque Orchestra in a program that was also featured on 60 Minutes II, and has recorded with the same group on the Hanssler Classic label. She is currently the principal violist for the Connecticut Grand Opera Orchestra and plays with the National Chorale and the Greenwich Symphony. She is a member of the Paloma String Quartet which is in residence at Queensborough Community College.  In the past, she has performed at numerous festivals, including Aspen, Banff and Meadowmount.  Ms. Rooks received her Bachelor’s Degree in viola performance from the Juilliard School of Music and her Master’s of Music degree from Yale School of Music.  Her principal viola teachers include Lillian Fuchs, Paul Kantor, and Donald McInnnes. She teaches at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY and has served on the board of the New York Viola Society.

The Hoff-Barthelson Music School, one of Westchester County’s most cherished and active cultural resources, has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach for more than half a century.
