Hoff Barthelson Flute And Cello Classes

Westchester Entertainment NewsScarsdale, NY - The Hoff-Barthelson Music School will concentrate on Master Classes on the November 22 and 23 weekend.

On Saturday, November 22, at 2 pm, cellist Pamela Devenport will conduct a “Mini-Masters” class featuring some of the youngest cellists at the School. Sunday, November 23 brings flutist Judith Mendenall to the School at 2 pm for a flute class with more advanced students. Both classes will be held at Hoff-Barthelson, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale.

Master Class coaching by distinguished guest artists has been a part of the Music School’s curriculum since its founding sixty-five years ago in 1944. Hoff-Barthelson Music School, one of Westchester County’s most cherished and active cultural resources, has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach for more than half a century.

Internationally recognized lecturer and master teacher Pamela Devenport teaches Long Term Cello Suzuki Pedagogy at the School for Strings. She has shared her unique blend of expertise and experience with hundreds of people in the international Suzuki Community. Her first book, Cellostart, is available through United Writers Press.

Well known as a Suzuki workshop and institute teacher, Ms. Devenport has toured extensively in the United States and Canada, and has been a guest speaker at the National Cello Institute, the American String Teachers Association, many Suzuki Association National Conferences, the World Cello Congress, and guest faculty at the 2005 International and the 2006 14th World Suzuki Conference in Turin, Italy.  She is a Suzuki Association of the Americas Registered Cello Teacher Trainer. Ms. Devenport was Chair of Strings of the Hartt Community Division, cello faculty of the Hartt School Collegiate Division, and developed the curriculum of Suzuki Cello Pedagogy in the graduate school.

Judith Mendenhall is principal flute of New York Chamber Symphony and the American Ballet Theater Orchestra. She has appeared as guest artist with the Cleveland, Emerson, Mendelssohn, and Concord String Quartets and is a founding member of the Naumburg Award-winning Aulos Wind Quintet and Music Today Contemporary Music Ensemble Festival. She has appeared at the Marlboro Music Festival, Spoleto Festival USA, and Italy Festivals and as principal flutist at Mostly Mozart Festival, Colorado Music Festival, and Grand Teton Music Festival, and was a guest artist with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for seven seasons, participating in its Live From Lincoln Center broadcasts. She has recorded for Marlboro Recording Society, Columbia Records, Delos, Vox, and CRI. Ms. Mendenhall has been a member of the flute faculty, Mannes College, The New School for Music, since 1987.

The public is invited free of charge to all Master Classes at Hoff-Barthelson.
