PERFORMERS

Amy Speace has already won a loyal grass-roots fan base, thanks in large part to live performances that merge warmth, humor and emotional immediacy, and to a tireless touring schedule that's already taken her across the United States.  Possessing a commanding voice, a distinctive melodic sensibility and an uncanny knack for nailing complex emotions in song, Speace makes music that's both illuminating and effortlessly accessible.  Signed by the legendary Judy Collins for her Wildflower Records label, Amy will also appear on Judy’s upcoming tribute album, Born to the Breed, which will feature songs of Judy’s sung by an all-star line-up of musicians such as Joan Baez, Leonard Cohen, Dolly Parton, and many more.

Some quotes, If you're a fan of Lucinda Williams / Caitlin Cary / Roseanne Cash, then give this girl a whirl and wonder why you haven't heard of her before.

**  Speace combines country and folk to great effect and her lovely vocal inflections invite favourable comparison with her compatriate & contemporary Dar Williams. **  This cool little lady ... has one of those spellbinding voices that just draws you in ... soft and seductive, yet witty and street smart, and a little dangerous ... Her voice is to die for but the Americana folk, twangy country arrangements ... and the confrontational songwriting come up to the same level.

Anthony da Costa is a performing songwriter from Pleasantville, New York.  In January alone, he released his sixth record, Typical American Tragedy; opened for Livingston Taylor and Susan Werner; was nominated as Folk Alliance Emerging Artist of the Year; and recorded his seventh record, Bad Nights, Better Days—a duo project with his duo partner, Abbie Gardner of Red Molly—in three days.  2007 wasn’t half-bad either.  Anthony was the youngest winner ever of the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk and Falcon Ridge’s Emerging Artist Competitions.  He also showcased at the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival in Nashville and was a Mountain Stage New Song Contest Finalist.  Anthony’s writing and performing draw from a deep well of rich musical influences—from Bob Dylan and Dan Bern, to Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, to Ryan Adams and Johnny Cash.  A prolific songwriter and self-taught multi-instrumentalist, he is a strict adherent to Zimmerman’s Theory of the Never-Ending Tour, playing perpetually at festivals, theaters, clubs and coffee houses throughout the Northeast and beyond.  Anthony’s upcoming performances range from the Tarrytown Music Hall in New York, where he’ll open for Dan Bern, to the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, where he’ll play the main stage, to Denmark, where he’ll make his European debut at the Tonder Festival.   See www.anthonydacosta.com

Abbie Gardner, a member of Red Molly, a NY female trio that has taken the Americana music world by storm in just a few short years.  She is also a captivating and talented solo artist.  With her very versatile soulful voice, she is at home whatever she is singing, be it folk, country, jazz, blues, or pop.  She is also one of the finest dobro players in the region.  She was a finalist in the 2003 Hank Williams Songwriting Competition, and won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2004.  Among her CDs, she also released a collection of jazz standards with her father, pianist Herb Gardner. Hear her at:  http://www.myspace.com/abbiegardner.  And now, Abbie and Anthony have joined forces and just released their new duo CD, Bad Nights/Better Days.  With just a guitar and a dobro (with the occasional lap steel and/or lame joke) these two have been playing stages across the Northeast where they made their (in)formal debut on the hills of the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival last summer.  Raw and in real-time, there's nothing artificial about this duo.  They write the songs they used to be afraid to write.  They sing with their hearts on their sleeves.
