Westchester Entertainment NewsMt. Kisco, NY - The adventures of a lion, zebra, giraffe and a hippo will come to life on a 65-foot-high screen when this summer’s “Screenings under the Stars” Free Outdoor Movies series kicks off with the animated hit Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008, PG) Thursday, July 9, at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. It will be followed by The Dark Knight (2008, PG-13) on Thursday, August 20.

“Screenings under the Stars is one of our most popular programs every summer, something everyone looks forward to each year,” County Executive Andy Spano said. “These movies bring together people of all ages, from youngsters to teens and adults, for an evening of fun at Westchester’s own ‘Central Park,’ the Kensico Dam Plaza.”

The “Screenings under the Stars” free outdoor movie series is presented by Westchester County Parks. The event is sponsored by Fujifilm USA, Westchester Magazine, The Journal News LoHud.com, radio stations 100.7 WHUD and 107.1 The Peak, FunTime Amusements and Friends of Westchester County Parks, Inc.

Prior to the start of the movie, there’ll be plenty of entertainment with a deejay beginning at 6 p.m. The movies begin at sundown.

Admission and parking are free. Moviegoers should bring blankets, folding chairs and a picnic to enjoy on Kensico’s wide lawn. Refreshments and popcorn will also be for sale. In the event of rain, the movie will be canceled.

This sequel to 2005's original animated film Madagascar picks up where the first movie left off, continuing the story of four New York zoo animals: Alex the Lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), who are still stranded on the island of Madagascar. They decide to leave and they land in the wilderness of Africa, where Alex meets the rest of his family. However, he has trouble communicating with them after spending so much time at the Central Park Zoo, and a series of hilarious incidents ensue. Running time is 89 minutes.

Kensico Dam Plaza is located at the north end of the Bronx River Parkway in Valhalla and can be reached via Route 22 or the Taconic State Parkway.
