Mamaroneck, NY - The Emelin Theatre marks its new focus on fresh works for theatre with its production of Murderers, a dark comedy written by prolific American playwright Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by the Emelin’s new Artistic Director Michael Bush.
Produced in collaboration with the City Theatre in Pittsburgh, the Emelin presents Murderers Saturday, January 24 through Sunday, February 10.
When longtime collaborators Michael Bush and Jeffrey Hatcher produced the East Coast premier of Murderers with the Philadelphia Theatre Company in 2006, the show received extensive critical praise. Philadelphia Inquirer called it “elegant” and Philly Weekly declared it “a must-see” while Philadelphia City Paper proclaimed it a “miracle of comic invention.”
The Emelin’s production of Murderers features Jennifer Harmon as Lucy Stickler. Harmon, who appeared made her Broadway debut with the APA-Phoenix company, has appeared in the School for Scandal, The Sisters Rosensweig and Neil Simon’s Rumors, among others. Murderers also stars Brent Langdon (Gerald Halverson) and Robin Skye (Minka Lupino).
Gerald Halverson marries his fiance’s mother and moves to Riddle Key Luxury Senior Retirement Living Center and Golf Course in Florida in a scheme to avoid paying capital gains tax. Lucy Stickler and her husband Bob, who have been married for almost 50 years, are doing all right at Riddle Key until the arrival of widow/divorcee (and former flame of Bob’s) Margaret Faydle. When Lucy's suspicions about Bob and Margaret are confirmed, things get hot. But the Riddle Key residents are safe and sound thanks to Minka Lupino, a Riddle Key employee with a hobby that helps this show live up to its name.
Jeffrey Hatcher has worked with Emelin artistic director Michael Bush on various projects over the course of 14 years. His other work includes the book for the Broadway production of Never Gonna Dance; Three Viewings and A Picasso at Manhattan Theatre Club; Scotland Road and The Turn of the Screw at Primary Stages; Tuesdays with Morrie at the Minetta Lane; Murder by Poe and The Turn of the Screw at The Acting Company; Neddy at American Place; and Fellow Travelers at Manhattan Punchline.
