White Plains, NY - Downtown Music announces the launch of a new program, Downtown Music’s Arts-In-Education Series, designed specifically for school groups.
The new school-time series features nationally recognized artists who are known for their innovative, high-quality work, experience working with children, and musical appeal to young audiences. All programs have curriculum connections related to the New York State Learning Standards, study guides with sample classroom extension activities, and feature a pre- or post-performance lecture with the artists. The shows have been underwritten by sponsors and are available to school groups at no charge. The 2008-09 school performances include:
Wednesday, December 3 at 12:10 p.m.
A Musical Bouquet by Musicora features Melissa Alexander, Piano; Maria Conti, violin; Marigene Kettler, soprano; and Jonathan Trotta, classical guitar. The program will include excerpts from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.
Wednesday, February 4 at 12:10 p.m.
Dynamic Duo showcases Nancy Hambleton Torrente, Cello, and Joy Plaisted, Harp. The program includes the uniquely beautiful Suite for Cello and Harp by iconoclastic California composer, Lou Harrison.

Happy Birthday Mendelssohn features Elizaveta Kopelman and Anna Gourfinkel, duo pianists, who play duets of Felix Mendelssohn in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The program will include original transcriptions from A Midsummer Night's Dream, including the famous Wedding March.
