Pleasantville, NY - The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC), a nonprofit institution with a dual mission of film and education, has announced that Dominick Balletta will be joining the organization as Managing Director on May 15.
In this newly created position, Mr. Balletta will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Film Center and the Media and Education Center scheduled to open this summer.
“The JBFC undertook an extensive search to find a professional with Dominick’s level of management and operations skills, as well as a proven track record of identifying and building new revenue opportunities, and we’re very excited with the results of the search,” said Janet Maslin, President of the JBFC Board of Directors.
Serving more than seven years as General Manager of Film Forum, a leading not-for-profit film center for new documentaries, classic cinema and fiction features from around the world, Mr. Balletta oversaw various key functions, including finance, development, e-commerce/Internet technology, human resources and business development. While at Film Forum, he helped to create the organization’s first professional full time development department, as well as guided the growth of the endowment and established new streams of revenue.
“This is a critical time for the organization as we continue to expand and open a new education facility within a few months. We are thrilled that Dominick is joining us and I look forward to partnering with him in our next stage of development,” said Steve Apkon, Founder and Executive Director of the JBFC.
Throughout his professional career to the present day, Mr. Balletta has been involved with theatrical productions. In 1996, he founded and became a partner at Performance Associates, which provides producing/administrative support to theatrical and dance companies, both non-profit and commercial. He is a longtime producer for Moisés Kaufman’s Tectonic Theater Project, and is currently a producer for Kaufman’s latest play, 33 VARIATIONS. A
co-production with Washington, DC’s Arena Stage and California’s LaJolla Playhouse, 33 VARIATIONS begins performances at LaJolla’s Mandell Weiss Theatre on April 8.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Balletta served as Managing Director for Performance Space 122 and Ensemble Studio Theatre, as well as Producing Associate for Pan Asian Repertory Theatre. He received a B.A. in Theatre/Economics in 1982 from Rutgers University and currently resides in Bronxville with his wife and children.
