Valhalla, NY - Danceworks, the dance company of Westchester Community College, will perform a dance concert for children on Sunday, February 1.
A number of dances will be performed for and with area children at a special 3:00 p.m. matinee in the Academic Arts Theatre.
Company Director Mollyann Franzblau (Larchmont, New York) has choreographed several dances which will be performed at the event, an annual favorite for children who will be invited to join the dancers on stage.
“Kids love to dance,” says Franzblau. “We teach them movements while they are in their seats and then get them up on stage. Once they know what it feels like to dance a movement, they rejoin the audience to see the company perform those same dance steps.”
The dances featured at this year’s concert will be:
“Party,” a lively, fun dance with jazzy, upbeat energy. Choreographed by company member Gregory Blake.
“Life’s A Ball,” choreographed by Franzblau, is a hilarious and magical dance about the problems and possibilities of dancing with twelve very large inflatable balls.
“Wild Things, also choreographed by Franzblau, is a playful dance inspired by the whimsical characters in Maurice Sendak’s book “Where the Wild Things Are.”
