Katonah, NY - Artists from the tri-state area are invited to submit work for the KMA’s prestigious juried exhibition, held every three years.
This next exhibition, titled Contemporary Confrontations, will be juried by Nan Rosenthal, who served as Senior Consultant for Modern and Contemporary Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for 15 years. Entrants may submit up to two artworks—paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media, sculpture, photography, or video—which have been executed since 2004. The exhibition opens January 25 and runs through February 22, 2009.
Artists must visit the Museum’s website for schedules, fees, requirements and restrictions, and to download a prospectus: www.katonahmuseum.org. Works in all media are eligible for awards: First Prize $1000, Second Prize $750, and Third Prize $500. The Museum is located at 134 Jay Street in Katonah. 914.232.9555.
“Artists are remarkable barometers,” says Ms. Rosenthal. “We live in a time that calls for great change in the United States—in our politics, our economic policies, and our relations with countries around the globe. This exhibition seeks art that comments on current events and posits hopes for the future. The art may be abstract or figurative. In view of the recent death of Robert Rauschenberg, particular interest will be shown to works that explore new approaches to assemblage and collage.”
During her years at The Met, Ms. Rosenthal organized such landmark exhibitions as Philip Guston; Chuck Close: Prints; Robert Rauschenberg: Combines; and Jasper Johns: Gray.
