Mt. Kisco, NY - Learn the basics of botanical art in classes offered at Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial in Somers, the center for botanical art in Westchester County.
If you have no previous experience with drawing or painting, or would like to hone your skills, there’s a class for your skill and level of interest. Classes are taught by professional artists Corinne Lapin-Cohen and Laura Gould, who teach at Lasdon throughout the year. These seven-week fall sessions begin Tuesday, September 9 (Session A) and Tuesday, October 28 (Session B).
Classes include Colored Pencil II – Advanced, Drawing I – Fundamentals, Drawing II – Drawing Plants, Drawing and Colored Pencil; Drawing Fall’s Bounty, Drawing Complex Compositions, Watercolor I – Fundamentals followed by Watercolor II, Watercolor II – Developing Skills, and Watercolor III Advanced.
Morning classes run from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; afternoon classes run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fee for each seven-class course is $225.
Corinne Lapin-Cohen is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators, and the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has been displayed in galleries and botanical gardens throughout the country, including New York Botanical Garden, the Horticultural Society of New York and the New York State Museum. Ms. Lapin-Cohen’s work is part of the permanent collection of the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation. Her work is currently exhibited and for sale at Lasdon Arboretum. Laura Gould attended the School of Visual Arts and received her degree at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. Her illustrations have been published in Vegetarian Times and the Rocky Mountain Gazette.
Class size is limited, and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. A materials list will be provided at registration.

Lasdon Park is located in Somers and can be reached via I-684, exit 6. Head west off the exit; the park is approximately four miles ahead on the left. Or, take the Taconic State Parkway to Route 202/35 exit; the park is 3.5 miles ahead on the right.
