Bedford, NY - On Wednesday, November 11, at 8:00 p.m., Bedford Chamber Concerts will perform musical highlights from the court of Frederic the Great. Renowned musician Anthony Newman, dubbed the “High Priest of Bach” by Wynton Marsalis will be joined by members of the Bedford Chamber Ensemble.
Soloists will include Eugenia Zukerman, acclaimed by the Boston Globe as “one of the finest flutists of our time” and Renee Jolles on violin. The New York Times hailed Jolles as a “real star” for her New York concert debut.
The program will include trio sonatas by Frederic’s court musician, C.P.E. Bach as well as movements from J.S. Bach’s late masterpiece, The Musical Offering. Based on an original and complex theme composed by Frederic the Great, in The Musical Offering Bach answers the Ruler’s challenge to compose both three and six-part fugues, and ultimately went far beyond the dare in the work’s final published form.
The music of this time will bring to life a period of social change and offer a glimpse into the times of a highly musical King.
Past concert attendees say, "The Bedford Chamber Concerts are sensational – it is chamber music at the highest quality.”
The concert will take place in the Fellowship Hall of St. Matthew’s Church, 382 Cantitoe Street in Bedford. Refreshments will be served during intermission and are included in the $35 ticket price. For ticket reservations call 914-234-9636.
