Purchase, NY - Singer/actress Audra McDonald returns by popular demand to The Performing Arts Center Purchase College on Friday, Apr. 18th at 8 p.m.
Tickets to the concert are $65, $55 and $45.
Earning an unprecedented three Tony Awards before the age of 30 (Carousel, Master Class, and Ragtime) and a fourth in 2004 (A Raisin in the Sun), McDonald is frequently compared to legendary performers such as Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. She blends a classically trained soprano with an incomparable gift for dramatic truth-telling.
From Broadway, McDonald has segued to acting in films and on TV, winning an Emmy nod along the way. In February, she appeared on ABC-TV’s made-for-television movie version of A Raisin in the Sun, alongside hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, her co-star from the 2004 Broadway revival. She also appears as Dr. Naomi Bennett in the ABC television series Private Practice.
“Simply put, she's the best we've got…” wrote reviewers Barbara and Scott Siegel for Theatermania.com. They added, “In this era when some singers are lauded for their interpretive skills despite their mediocre voices and others are praised for their vocal ability though they can't act worth a damn, here is Audra McDonald, one of the relatively few performers in our midst who is aces in all areas and gorgeous to boot!”
