Armonk, NY - The Armonk PlayersWill be presenting Stephen Sondheim's 'A Little Night Music' on May 30, 31, June 1, 5, 6, and 7. George Puello, of Westchester Broadway Theatre, is directing. George Croom, who has an equally impressive background, is music director.
The cast is shaping up to be simply the best we have ever had. 'A Little Night Music' is rarely performed because the music is so difficult, so the talent who came out from the tri-state area and the city for a chance toperform in this show was staggering.
In addition to a stellar adult cast, we are using some younger locals. Aaron Dworetzsky, who is graduating from Byram Hills High School this year and going on to study theater at the University of Miami is our Henrik. Maia Katz, who isin 7th grade at HCC middle school in Armonk and Hillary Ginsberg, who is afreshman from Horace Greeley in Chappaqua are alternating performances as Frederika. They were cast because they were simply the best, not because they were localkids. They are three very talented young people. How lucky we are to have directors of the caliber ofthe two Georges working in Armonk. Also, many of the performers in Community theater in the New York area are ex-professionals or starting out in professionalcareers. The older actors are often highly trained union members (eg: Actors' Equity) whose lives have taken them in different directions. But, they stilllove to perform.
The cast includes Lynne Robyn Barasch, (South Salem) Beth Brandon, (Bedford),Daniel Carlino (Pleasantville) Christine Colangelo (Thornwood), Christine DiTota, (Harrison) Aaron Dworetzky (Armonk),Hillary Ginsberg(Chappaqua), Kat Hughes (Pleasantville) Maia Katz(Armonk), Kathryn Kitt (Sleepy Hollow), Judith Pennyfeather(White Plains), Lisa Pierce (Harrison), Davina Porter(Westport, CT ), Larry Reina (Port Chester) and Anthony Valbiro. (Rye) I hope you will consider a story on 'A Little Night Music' in Armonk.
The Armonk Players is a community theatre group whose intention is to produce high quality theatre for the enjoyment and enrichment of its participants and the local population. To this end we stage each year two full productions and offer four Simply Theatre play reading programs. At these readings, presented free to the public, we invite attendees to discuss the play with the director and actors afterwards over coffee and cake. All performances are at the Whippoorwill Hall auditorium adjacent to The North Castle Public Library in Armonk, NY. The Armonk Players is sponsored by Friends of the North Castle Public Library, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise money for purchasing "extras" for The North Castle Public Library and to bring cultural and educational events to the community.
